Taran Armstrong, born on January 15, 2002, in Burnie, Tasmania, is an Australian professional basketball player known for his skills as a point guard.
He began his basketball journey influenced by his father, Ben, who played semi-professionally, and his uncle, Sam.
Armstrong’s early exposure to the sport led him to play for local teams in the North West Basketball Union (NWBU) before earning a scholarship to Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence in 2018.
In 2021, Armstrong joined California Baptist University (CBU) in the United States, where he made a significant impact over two seasons.
As a freshman, he averaged 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, leading all freshmen nationally in assists.
He also recorded the program’s first triple-double and was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
In his sophomore year, he continued to excel, averaging 11.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, earning a spot on the All-WAC Second Team.
After his collegiate success, Armstrong returned to Australia, signing a two-year contract with the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL) in May 2023.
Despite early injuries, he showcased his talent by recording a triple-double in February 2025, with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a victory over the Brisbane Bullets.
Armstrong’s performance in the NBL caught the attention of NBA scouts, leading to his signing of a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors in February 2025.
This agreement allows him to split his time between the Warriors and their G League affiliate, providing him with an opportunity to develop further within the NBA system.
Throughout his career, Armstrong has also represented Australia in international competitions, contributing to the national team’s success in various tournaments.
