Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Chông Gai: The cultural support

The performances that incorporate traditional culture and transform folk materials of ATVNCG (Brothers Traversing Thousands of Obstacles) have great influence, bringing a different musical experience.

The cultural support

Referring to the first memorable song of ATVNCG, the audience remembers “Trống Cơm” by the trio of People’s Artist Tự Long, Soobin Hoàng Sơn, and Cường Seven.

The “Trong Com” stage is considered an unprecedented phenomenon of the program when it achieved the No. 1 position on YouTube’s trending music chart.

For 1 month after its broadcast, “Trong Com” has remained on the chart, opening a new direction for future performances.

Not only inspiring cover versions (remade from the original), this performance also conquered many generations of audiences, with creativity when combining folk melodies, rap, and R&B.

The trio of artists composed an additional rap and wrote new lyrics, adding choreography but did not lose the familiar melody of “Trong Com”.

Following that success, the medley “Áo Mùa Đông – Trở Về” staged a nostalgic scene and image, recreating a heroic historical period, but the musical material still had a contemporary and fresh color.

The flames of passion for the national culture of the creators of ATVNCG burned slowly and exploded in the 4th performance, with a series of performances using folk materials such as Chèo cổ, Múa chén, Cải luong…

The performances not only took the audience on a tour of Vietnam, enjoying the beauty of indigenous culture, but were also an opportunity for the artists to truly experience and deeply absorb the long-standing cultural values of the nation.

There, the audience saw Bằng Kiều determined to win the song “Dạ Cổ Hoài Lang”, rapper Binz singing the cheo classic “Đào Liễu” or a group of southern singers learning to speak in a central accent to sing “Mưa Trên Phố Huế”.

It is not an exaggeration to say that ATVNCG has strived to paint a colorful, vivid picture of Vietnamese culture and evoke national pride.

The journey to revive the melodies that have accompanied the years of ATVnCG ends with “Mẹ Yêu Con (Mother Loves Child)”.

Originally a mother’s confession to her young child, musician Nguyễn Văn Tý’ s work becomes heroic and profound through the new arrangement of the talented artists of Tinh Hoa.

The X-part (new lyrics) was composed by Soobin, the rap part was written by Binz, and the chanting part by People’s Artist Tự Long created highlights and brought “Mother Loves Child” high on the music charts.

Connecting the past and present

In fact, the audience supports ATVNCG not only because of the performances that gather famous stars or the catchy and novel variations of the songs.

They love the artists when they see the behind-the-scenes stories, the rigorous training process to dedicate outstanding performances, or the connection between men with different personalities and strengths.

We can mention the moment when Thiên Minh sang the song “Cảm Ơn” to pay tribute to his late friend, singer Wanbi Tuấn Anh, when the passion for the profession returned to Thanh Duy after many ups and downs in his career, or how People’s Artist Tự Long became an advisor for the performance “Áo Mùa Đông” exploiting the image of a soldier.

People’s Artist Tự Long once affirmed after the performance “Trong Com”: “Culture is the essence! Culture is the origin! Culture is the nation”.

The elaborate performances are staged with the desire to connect traditional values, so that young people can access and love Vietnam’s cultural treasures more.

The audience is inspired when singers, actors, and even athletes break their limits and challenge themselves with new roles.

Through the hands of music director SlimV, stage director Đình Hà Uyên Thư, the efforts and creativity of 33 talented people, the musical space of ATVNCG creates an opportunity for the Gen Z generation to admire the beauty of the flow of music through each period and the cultural beauty that needs to be spread and preserved over time and generations.
